Month: October 2013

Its Halloween

Hey Everyone!

It is hard to believe that it is the end of October already. I know I have done all the stuff I have jammed in over the last month, but it is still hard to believe. Going to a wedding in Canada, starting a new job, and now being in my third week of it is crazy.

I miss doing daily blogs, but I haven’t because I have not had the time or energy since I have been back from Canada. I am hoping that as I adjust to this routine I will be able to get back on the blog a day schedule.

As I sit in traffic here in the big city, I miss the days of living in a country where between the three main towns within the county there are only 8 – 10 traffic lights.  I have a job and for that I am thankful, and in time I hope that one day I can move back to a small town, in farm, wine and hops country.

Missing the Country Life

Hi Everyone!

It’s Monday, which means I go back to work tomorrow. Today was a nice relaxing day at home, working on hats for children in need, before I go back to work. I enjoy the time that I have, while much less that I had, to be able to work on these simple projects, they are easy and I am not having to always be thinking about what I am doing.

This weekend I went to two baby showers, one on Friday night, after I had gotten off of work. It took place in the area I went to college, and still call home. I fell in love with the area, and it is right at the base of the foothills of the coast range, and it is only a little more than an hour from the beach, so every so often it would smell like the beach when it rained. The second was on Saturday, for a friend of mine, here in the metro area, but just outside of the city enough to see horses.

The traffic alone here (even though it isn’t super bad compared to other big cities) has been a reminder of why I miss where I lived while I was in college. Where I lived while in college was a decent size small town, with a decent size grocery store, but it was still very much one of three small towns in a rural agricultural county, a fair number of miles away from the closest major freeway, and a good half an hour to the closest mall, close enough to go shopping every 3 or 4 months, but far enough away to still be in the country.

What it feels like to be a "Grown Up"

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was one of those days where everything seems to be going wrong, and it not only starts bad, but stays not going to well. The redeeming qualities though were getting off half an hour early, so that I could go home for a baby shower for a friend of mine. While I was there, I got to hold my baby foster niece (the foster daughter of a good friend of mine). She is such a little cutie, and she even fell asleep on me.

I am still learning how to handle having a job and having time to do things that I want to get done after work. This past week, I have been exhausted, and it felt like all I did was eat, sleep, and go to work. I know that in time I will become less tired as I adjust to the schedule.  Now I know what it feels like to be busy, and have stuff to do on the weekends.

Campfires_&_Candlelight 007This afternoon I went to another baby shower for another friend of mine, who is due in January. It was a nice baby shower and all, at a really nice venue. This is the friend that loves purple, and who I made a purple baby blanket and hat for.  Beings that I gave her this gift today, I can finally share the pictures and such, since she has seen it, and knows all about it.  This is the same friend that I bought a package of Earth’s Best Chlorine Free Wipes and a package of two Minnie Mouse pacifiers for.  While I was at the baby shower I made some progress on the infinity scarf I am working on, and since I have been home I have been working on a hat for a child in India.

I love this time of year. The weather is changing, my favorite shows are back in full force, and I can spend a saturday night getting caught up on my knitting and my shows.

This Week is Flying By

Hey Everyone!

So it is thursday and I had work today. I am still learning a lot each day, but slowly I am picking up more and more, and am able to do more on my own.  Its a job, that will help me pay my bills and get some much needed work experience.

Life has been busy lately, and the Holiday Season is only going to be busier, but I am greatly thankful for having a job, and a reason to get up and out of the house in the morning.

What I Ate Wednesday

Hey Everyone!

I am back from vacation and settled back into a routine, so I am back with What I Ate Wednesdays.

This morning for breakfast I had two Van’s Gluten/Egg/Dairy Free pancakes with dairy free spread and syrup, as well as a plate of fruit, and some Brown and Serve breakfast sausages.

Throughout the day at work I drank a bottle of water, and for lunch I ate my ham sandwich, sliced apple, carrots, rice crackers and fig newton fruit thin cookies. Both the rice crackers and cookies are dairy free, as is the bread I used for my sandwich. I also had a Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash pop with my lunch.

For dinner I had what was left of the taco meat and beans mixture from a few nights ago, with some salsa and blue corn chips. I also had a huge salad, a Cranberry Splash Sierra Mist, and some of the fig newton fruit thin cookies for dessert.

In the process of helping my mom make pumpkin cupcakes, I had a few of the candy pumpkins for putting on top of the cupcakes. I also am trying to drink more water.

Relaxing Day after Busy Couple of Weeks

Hi Everyone!

I woke up this morning to foggy skies,  that burned off by 9:30 in the morning, with leaves starting to turn yellow, orange and red. I totally knew that fall is upon us this far south. Having already had Canadian Thanksgiving in Canada, with Halloween right around the corner next week, and our own Thanksgiving here in the States in a month, I love this time of year.

It is kind of nice to have a weekday off from work, so that I can get some things done around that house that I was not able to get done over the weekend.

I have been on the go for most of the past two weeks, so having a day off to do whatever I wanted felt weird, and yet was nice for a change.

I am getting ready to start my second week of my new job. I don’t have the nervous butterflies with this job as I have had with others. When I was working at the daycare a couple years ago, the whole time I worked there the nervous butterflies never went away.

Not my Typical Saturday

Hi Everyone!

So it is Saturday, and I have two baby showers that I am going to next weekend, which meant that I needed to finish getting the baby gifts for them. One of the baby shower’s is down in the area I call home (aka where I went to college), and the other is up here. Fortunately they are on different days. For the first one, I just got a little old navy shirt and a pair of little old navy socks to go with the books my mom and I had picked up for this baby. For the other baby shower I picked up a package of Earth’s Best baby wipes, since I couldn’t find Water Wipes in the stores I checked, and a package of two Minnie Mouse pacifiers to go with the hand knit blanket and hat I made for the mom to be.

While I was out, I found a pair of Bearpaw boots for a really good price, so I picked them up. Beings that they are a brand name, and normally expensive, I did buy some rain and stain guard and sprayed that on them, to help protect them, so hopefully they will last me a few years. Now that I am back from Canada, it has come time to invest in new leggings, that fit better, and that don’t have holes in them that were made by a cat’s claws.

I also went to the grocery store with my mom, to help pick out things that look good, especially for my lunches for work, so that I can have a decent lunch, with food that is dairy free, that also taste good. Yesterday was my third day of work, and it went much better than my first two days.
